Lucas Magneto out!

Lucas Magneto

The magneto was in good shape, except for a small dent somebody did to fit an asian carburettor. Also I had to do some soldering to the spark plug cable.

Engine out!

Really Beautiful Matchless 350cc engine!
I took the engine out of the frame and covered the exhaust and intake holes with a rag and masking tape.
Inside this metal cover there's the magneto chain.

A lot of dirty grease inside!

Oil pipes without the oil tank

Frame, forks, handelbar and wheels left!

I had to use these screwdrivers to hold the frame in place, since the frame is made of 2 separate parts.

MAtchless G3/L frame

Somebody soldered a big piece of metal onto the frame, I wonder why?

More Disassembling Pictures!

Gearbox still attached to frame

Seat with a really ugly faux leather cover

Matchless logo Bagdes
These Bagdes I sent them to re-chrome, I didn't want much chrome in the motorcycle as I want to give it a military look, but these bagdes are too beautiful to not be chromed.
Old but original rubber tank knee pads
The original knee pads were in really bad shape, I got some new reproductions, but the quality has no comparision.

Point Of No Return!

At this point I realized that it was gonna take more work than I thought. I started to disassemble the clutch and I had to learn a lot about how it worked, I mean, I had to learn as much possible about how a motorcycle works! This is my first and only bike.

Starting to Disassemble!

Matchless G3L without primary chaincase cover
As you can see there's rust all over the bike

Headlamp with Light Switch

Rear Mudguard
The rear mudguard was destroyed, the rust ate it all! It was impossible to repair. At this point I knew I had to spend some money to fix it. I seize the opportunity and bought the military model mudguards, both of them. I choose to paint the motorcycle "army green", I was gonna paint the bike myself and I'm no painter, so this color was good to cover the imperfections, it has an almost matte finish.
