Identifying year and model

On the left side of the engine you can see some number over the aluminium crankcase, in this case: "47/G3L 6209"
47= Year 1947
G3L= motorcycle model
The rest is the engine registration number.

1947 Matchless G3L

I bought this motorcycle in 2014, from an old man that owned it since the beginning, the year 1947. It was in really bad shape, a lot of rust, dirt, grease and of course oil everywhere. At least it was running, I mean, you can ride it on the streets. My goal was to restore it using little money, my own tools, and my almost zero knowledge about bikes, so it was a challenge for me!
